Do you know thriftiness is a beautiful character trait; however, know it's different from cheapness. Knowing the contrast will change a person's life forever. Jesus said in Matthew 6:19, Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. When this illustration of God is realized, "Lay up treasures," people's lives are enriched when they become wealthy and wise, where Christian Character Counts always.
Too many Christians think of heaven's treasure as something for the hereafter. It's believed to be like life insurance whose benefits payout after this life. Nothing can be further from the truth and identifies the problem with Christians today. The reality is heaven's resources, spiritual treasures, are available now for all to enjoy for eternity, but the key is being thrifty with our physical treasures. Thriftiness is multiplying resources through wise investments, so I have more to give back to God in the future. Recall Jesus said, "it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). When Christians fail to honor God's offering plan, the bankruptcy of the soul is the outcome.
To avoid bankruptcy, the wisdom of Jesus invites us into a realm of life where the forces of nature and human evil cannot harm what we treasure. This is to say; we need to direct our beliefs and actions toward making a difference in the realm of spiritual substance sustained and governed by God. That is to invest our lives in what God is doing, which cannot be lost.
To integrate thriftiness into one's life, one can not be cheap or stingy. Cheapness or stinginess keeps back what should be given, so I have more for myself. God loathes cheapness! The Bible says, "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth (Luke 12:15, KJV)." A person who believes that personal possessions measure happiness will not be capable of experiencing true fulfillment in life. Its people who are content with the essentials of life will have the natural ability to be thrifty (1 Timothy 6:8).
Inducting oneself into a thrifty reality, one must make a choice now to reap the rewards of a giving lifestyle. The first thing a child of God does is give back to God what is already his. Remember, everything you have is from God, and to show your faithfulness to him, he asks for a small portion of what he has already given. A good starting point is to provide gracefully to the LORD's work, typically through a person's home church (Proverbs 3:9; Malichi 3:10). Doing otherwise is counterproductive to God's direction and shows allegiance elsewhere upfront. The Christian aims to advance God's kingdom and please the LORD first. We do this by developing traits like thriftiness to liquidate cheapness and extravagance where Christian Character counts.
Mindfully,
