As believers in Christ; choosing the narrow path and making firm decisions is essential (Matthew 7:13-14). Being indecisive introduces negative consequences while embracing Christ-like qualities can bring tremendous blessings or rewards. Decisiveness is a valuable trait that leads to a great life. It's evident when someone can confidently make tough decisions without hesitation. Undoubtedly, Jesus was a decisive leader, and we must follow in his footsteps to make good and tough decisions where Christian Character Counts.
Decisiveness is a character trait commonly associated with Jesus and identifies if someone has walked through the narrow gate of obedience and discipline (practice). Jesus’ decisiveness is seen when his disciples make difficult decisions with confidence and without delay toward a good life. In the Bible, Jesus is often depicted as a decisive leader who was able to take action and move forward in difficult situations. For example, when he was confronted by the Pharisees and teachers of the law (religious people), Jesus did not hesitate to speak out against their hypocrisy and traditionalism (Matthew 23). As disciples of Christ, we are required to do the same if we expect our souls to experience health and wholeness, personally and collectively.
When someone lacks decisiveness in their makeup, they struggle to make decisions or take action in a timely manner. They may be prone to procrastination, indecisiveness, and overthinking. They may second-guess themselves frequently and struggle with anxiety or fear of making the wrong choice. This can lead to missed opportunities and an inability to achieve goals or progress in their personal or professional lives. Additionally, a lack of decisiveness can also impact group dynamics (marriage, family [to include church], work, etc.) as it can slow down the decision-making process and create conflict or tension among team or family members.
Integrating decisiveness into your character is simpler than most think. There are several things to do to improve your ability to make decisions confidently and in a timely manner. First, set goals to take small steps outside your comfort zone. Remember, stretching yourself is what causes growth in who you are and what you do. Second, overcome your fears! Fear is the number one factor holding people back from making decisions, especially one for Christ or the “Good” life. Lastly, seek guidance from trusted people like mentors, experts, and, oh yes, pastors - spiritual advisors. Doing these few things daily can increase decisiveness dramatically and improve your life towards “Goodness” indefinitely.
Welcoming, inducting, and improving decisiveness into who you are as a disciple of Christ makes you more like Jesus. As well it shows where your obedience and priorities reside — kingdom living with a kingdom heart! Today, be decisive and make the decision to be like the one you call your Lord and savior to stop fake discipleship as seen by wolves in sheep’s clothing which they’re only concerned with their desires and deeds. Choose to go through the narrow gate of obedience and discipline towards Jesus where your inward realities are never worrying or overwhelming; life is always good, where Christian Character Counts.
With love and decisiveness,
