Throughout my life, I have been fortunate enough to experience hospitality firsthand. Whether it was the kindness my wife's family showed me when I became part of their lives, the support locals provided when I was stationed in Germany as a young Airman adapting to a new culture and country, or the warmth and kindness I received when joining a new position at my current church, these instances exemplify the true meaning of hospitality.
It is often believed that hospitality should be reserved for individuals who are similar to oneself or can offer something in return. However, the words spoken by Jesus in Luke 14 challenge individuals to expand their perception of hospitality and extend it to all, particularly to those marginalized or overlooked. When someone misrepresents the concept of hospitality, they may exhibit traits such as meanness and unfriendliness, which are undesirable behaviors for a Christian to demonstrate. In essence, genuine hospitality manifests the love of Christ, which should be extended to all people regardless of their background or status.

By intentionally creating a welcoming environment with your words and deeds, others will feel accepted, loved, and cared for - this is an aspect of grace. Secondly, it's crucial to show genuine kindness and compassion towards others. As Christians, we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves and to extend hospitality to everyone - as stated in Matthew 22:39 and Hebrews 13:2. Lastly, we should serve others selflessly without expecting anything in return. By offering our time, resources, and talents to those who welcome us into their lives, we can demonstrate Christ's love and follow his example of serving others.
