Christian Character Counts: Responsibility

The introduction to Christianity is to be like Jesus and responsible in life, where everyone benefits. Your life is your responsibility, and those who call themselves Christians are responsible and expected to do certain things. Those things are to love, think, feel, and act as their Lord and Savior. Suppose Jesus’ followers are reliable and accountable for these things. In that case, they are true believers of God where Christian Character Counts!

To live as a Christian means to identify with Jesus and live responsibly through his expectations outlined in life. The first responsibility is; Love like God (Repent: Matthew 4:17). The second is to commit and be engaged in God’s love (Be Born Again: John 3:7). The next; think like Jesus to develop a character to manage life well (Follow Me and Rejoice: Matthew 4:19 | Matthew 5:11-12). Finally, with personal responsibility, there is the expectation of honoring God’s law (Love) to handle life’s relationships well (Honor God’s Law: Matthew 5:17). Once these responsibilities are observed and applied, the most challenging expectation is required. That responsibility is to be reconciled with humanity, specifically God’s Children (Mathew 5:23-25).

The Bible is clear; God invites all people to love like Him, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)” To be responsible as a Christian requires to love the world and to give as Jesus (God-man) did. If a person is walking with God’s expectations on the inside, the first six teachings of Christ, then their life will reflect the responsibility of Christ outwardly. They think like Christ, use Christ-like character traits (virtues) to manage life well, and act in a way that consistently adds value

to all people’s lives.

To integrate and increase the degree of responsibility in the Christian life, one must have a daily goal to think and act like Jesus. To think like Jesus is to have the same attitude as him (Beatitudes), and to act like him is to perform in a way that shows the love of God in the here and now (The Golden Rule). Or in other words, It’s our responsibility to add value to people wherever we may be so all will always experience God’s Grace and truth! The reason is to be responsible for achieving the greater purpose of loving people as God loves them and to the same degree.

Responsibility is trusting what is expected of you. As a Christian, you are expected to think and act like Jesus to be a picture of God’s Love in all areas of life. Today, I ask you to look at your life and ask if it is in balance with the expectations of the Christian faith. If not, then be responsible and adjust your thinking and performance to be like Jesus, our Lord, and Savior, to show the world what it means to be a responsible person where Christian Character Counts!

With responsibility,

Pastor Drake
