Christian Character Counts: Sensitivity

Monday, May 15, 2023

The "Golden Rule" from the Bible, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Matthew 7:12 [KJV]), is a beautiful example of how we can introduce and spread happiness through “sensitivity” in the world. As a Christian, showing sensitivity towards others brings me great joy, just as Jesus did during his time on earth. By following this principle, we can cultivate understanding and become the loving and caring individuals God intended us to be—people who live a wonderful and spiritually healthy life where Christian Character Counts.

Sensitivity is crucial for Christians because it allows us to embody Christ's character and spread his message of love and compassion. It identifies who we belong to and involves being attuned to Jesus' teachings and showing genuine respect and kindness towards others. This attunement means understanding people’s unique perspectives, viewpoints, and culture while recognizing that they are all created in God's image (Gen 1:31). However, we must strike a balance and avoid being either under-overly sensitive, which causes distance and callousness in the faith.

It is wonderful to see many Christians embracing sensitivity and spreading positivity worldwide. However, some are still reacting with negative emotions such as anger, contempt, and hostility, which is concerning. This pattern can harm our faith both as individuals and as a community. As Christians, we must examine our actions and beliefs and ensure they align with God's truth, offering a more fulfilling and eternal existence. I invite all to joyfully consider their character to understand if it’s aligned with Christ or our over- or under-sensitive world.

To cultivate sensitivity in Jesus' way, we must focus on enhancing various factors such as understanding, compassion, and emotional intelligence (Proverbs 4:7). One powerful way to do this is by practicing active listening, which involves listening attentively to others without interrupting and making an effort to understand their perspective. Additionally, we must be open-minded and willing to consider different viewpoints, approaching conflicts with compassion and understanding. We can also spread joy and kindness by performing good deeds for others, which can make a big difference in their lives. Lastly, seeking feedback from trusted individuals can help us identify areas where we can integrate and improve our sensitivity.

Christians must spread joy and positivity in the world and create an environment that fosters sensitivity. Neglecting sensitivity can harm our personal and collective faith and give power to evil forces opposing God. I encourage all Christians to take action immediately and spread love and kindness wherever they go. This effort will help us grow in our faith and advance the teachings of Jesus in the world. Let us embody Christ’s characteristics, value them, and proclaim joyfully from the mountain tops, "It is well with my soul." Doing so will help us grow in our faith and advance the teachings of Jesus in the world where Christian Character Counts!

Many Blessings!
