Take a moment to realize just how much you trust without even realizing it. Right now, you're relying on the chair supporting you, your eyes to read these words, and your brain to understand them… talk about an unintentional faith in furniture and physics! You depend on your device to stay powered, your Wi-Fi to be good, and this moment with me to feel meaningful. But let’s dig deeper… like that stubborn onion layer you keep avoiding. What about the air you’re breathing? You didn’t check its quality; you simply took a deep breath, trusting that the invisible mayhem outside isn’t plotting against you—and it wasn't. You’ll do it again, many times, probably without even thinking.
Our lives are overflowing with trust: in gravity, clocks, brakes, devices, friends, routines, and rhythms. Trust isn’t loud or flashy; it’s as subtle as forgetting your password but still managing to log in. It’s quiet, constant, and woven into everything we do, like the background music of our daily existence. It’s essential.
Trust is the foundation of life. Because it’s so deeply ingrained in our routines, we often overlook it, just like the air we breathe or the Wi-Fi signal we take for granted. But what and whom we trust influences the direction and quality of our lives.
So… who or what are you trusting? Think about it. No pressure, just a little nudge.
This question kicks off our mini-series, The Shield of Faith – Go on the Offense. Let truth be your armor, and trust be your shield. We’re not talking about blind faith or superficial trust; we’re talking about genuine, Bible-rooted faith trust with some serious backbone because everyone has faith, whether they are aware of it or not.
The Bible presents faith as concrete, relational, and purposeful, rooted in history and the stories of real people. Faith equals trust; it’s about relationships—trusting God’s Word and living it out, one step at a time.
Paul advises in Ephesians: “Above all, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Basically, trust is your spiritual big shield—wield it wisely.
In a world wobbling like a toddler on a sugar rush, trust is a battleground. Every lie, temptation, or false philosophy aims at your trust, like a sneaky pie-eater at a bake sale. The enemy doesn’t need to ruin your life outright; he just needs to erode your trust.
But guess what? You have a shield, crafted from grace (The Breastplate of Righteousness) and truth (The Belt of Truth). Trust God, His goodness, His love, His plan. Believe that He’s working for your good even when things look like a mess. Use the shield of trust to resist the enemy and march forward in faith.
Over the next few weeks or so, we'll explore carrying the Shield of Faith, living rooted in trust, no matter what’s thrown our way. We’ll examine the multifaceted nature of faith, that is, safeguarding priorities, trusting in chaos, and cultivating a godly character as we train to maintain our trust.
Faith is trust, and trust? Well, trust is basically everything. Our beliefs shape our reality—they steer our actions, attitudes, and feelings. Nothing is more important.
With that insight, we step into the next chapter of our year-long journey through the Armor of God. Let’s lift high the Shield of Faith, confidently and boldly. So, go on the offensive—let God’s truth cover your defense.
Let’s trust the Creator of reality. Raise your shield.
As always: Stay strong. Stay grounded. And—yes—Suit Up.
