And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
~ Philippians 4:7 ~
Last time, we talked about putting on The Shoes of Peace—being ready. But shoes aren’t just for standing still or being set, like in the phrase “Ready, set…” They’re for moving forward. They’re for GOING! This week, we’re lacing up and stepping into what it means to walk in peace. Let’s GO!
When I travel with my wife, Sherrie, again, who is facing health challenges due to Stage 4 Brain Cancer, things can get chaotic—and I’m 100% willing to navigate it with her. Airports and train stations are usually the most intense. Announcements blare over the loudspeakers, people dart like fish in a school, and the crowd weaves like waves in a storm. Just last week, during the Royal Gorge Train Experience in Colorado, we felt that same energy.
In the middle of it all, my steps have to stay steady as I guide Sherrie through the noise. I can’t just drift with the crowd—I have to stay mindful of where we’re going and how we’re getting there.
That’s a snapshot of walking in peace as a follower of Christ. Life swirls with pressure, noise, and distractions, but peace keeps us steady as we move forward.
Let me share three steps to walking in peace to help you maintain your composure and footing in life.
First, step away from ungodly counsel. Psalm 1 reminds us that blessing comes to the one who does not “walk in step with the wicked.” Who you walk with determines where you end up. If you let the world’s noise guide you, chaos will rule your steps. But if you let God’s Word guide you, peace will guard your path. It’s a promise!
Ask yourself: Am I letting God’s Word or the world’s noise set my pace?
Second, step into prayer and trust. Philippians 4 teaches us that peace comes through prayer. Prayer is where you release your burdens; trust is how you keep moving forward. Peace doesn’t always silence the storm, but it does steady your heart in the storm.
This week, when anxiety hits, pause. Pray. Then take the next step forward in trust.
Third, step out as a witness of peace. Peace is not just for you—it’s also for those who walk near you. In chaotic situations, your calm spirit is a testimony to Christ. Just like shoes leave footprints, your peaceful walk leaves a trail others can follow.
Where can you bring calm instead of pressure this week—at work, at home, or even in conflict?
Walking as you pray and trust will always lead to being a witness of peace. Learn, practice, and cultivate these three simple steps, and see how they turn chaos into God’s peace every time.
Walking in peace is more than surviving storms. It’s choosing God’s path, guarded by His Spirit, and leaving footprints of hope for others.
So lace up those shoes. Step away from the noise. Step into prayer. Step out as a witness. And let every step testify to the peace of Christ.
Therefore…Stay Strong. Shine Bright. Suit up.
