The War Within: Why 2026 Isn’t About Doing More—But Surrendering First

Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.

~ 2 Corinthians 10:3–6 ~

New year. New theme. New direction… But before anyone rushes into new goals, habits, or spiritual disciplines, let’s slow down and be honest for a moment. Because if we’re not careful, we’ll treat Christianity like a software update—something that boosts performance without changing ownership. And that’s not the faith Jesus called us into.

This year, our theme is The Art of War – Jesus Style. That phrase might sound intense—and it should. Not because we’re seeking a fight, but because we’ve finally acknowledged something most people already know deep down: Life is a battlefield. The question isn’t whether you’re in a war. The question is which one you’re fighting—and under whose command.

Let’s be clear from the start: the unseen war is the one that drains you. Other people. Cultural pressure. Politics. Work stress. Family tension. The world seems to be falling apart. Can we say “Burn Out!”? Most of us assume the battle is “out there.” But Scripture tells a different story. The first battlefield is inside us. The first enemy is misplaced allegiance. The first casualty is clarity. That’s why we’re starting 2026 not with tactics, tools, or armor—but with Boot Camp. Because before you can fight well, you must answer three questions: Who am I? Who’s in charge? And am I actually willing to follow?

The lie that sounds helpful but isn’t. There’s a belief floating around—especially in church culture—that seems harmless but quietly erodes the soul: “Fake it till you make it.” Smile through it. Perform faith. Look strong even when you’re divided inside. Here’s the problem: fake faith doesn’t mature; it fractures. You can’t fake surrender. You can’t fake allegiance. And you definitely can’t fake authority. Jeremiah said it plainly: the heart is deceitful. Not weak—deceptive. Which means if I trust myself as the final authority, I’m already losing ground. The war within begins the moment I try to rule my own life while asking Jesus to bless it.

Christianity is not a lifestyle upgrade. This may be uncomfortable—but it’s necessary. Christianity isn’t about becoming a slightly better version of yourself. It’s not about spiritual accessories. It’s not about self-improvement with Bible verses. Jesus didn’t say, “Improve.” He said, “Repent.” That word has been misunderstood for years. Repentance isn’t about shame or self-hatred. It’s not groveling or guilt. Repentance is a change of allegiance, an about-face of the mind, a surrender of authority, and a reorientation of life under a new King. That’s why Jesus’ first public command wasn’t believe harder or behave better. It was repent—because the Kingdom had arrived, and kingdoms demand loyalty.

You can’t fight for a King you won’t submit to. Here’s the tension most people live with: We want Jesus as Savior—but hesitate to accept Him as Commander. We desire His peace—but not His authority. His help—but not His leadership. His benefits—but not His rule. However, that arrangement doesn’t work. You don’t receive authority without allegiance. You don’t fight effectively while divided inside. And you can’t win external battles with internal rebellion. The Apostle Paul clarifies this in Ephesians 6. Before mentioning armor, he says, “Be strong in the Lord.” Not in willpower. Not in confidence. Not in strategy. Strength and unity come from alignment.

Boot camp is about order, not intensity. This first week isn’t about hype. It’s about honesty. Boot camp isn’t where you learn flashy moves—it’s where you learn obedience. Soldiers and Airmen don’t freelance. Authority flows from submission. And identity always comes before assignment. Even Jesus modeled this: identity declared, authority affirmed, then mission released. We tend to reverse that order. We serve first, surrender later—if ever. But Jesus never sent people out who hadn’t first come under authority. That’s why this opening message is called “The War Within: Step Into the Real Battle.” Because the most important fight of the year won’t be against culture, temptation, or circumstances; it will be the fight to surrender control.

Here’s the plan of attack we’re starting with—simple, but not easy: Fully submit before you serve with boldness. Allegiance activates authority. Partial surrender leads to ongoing struggle. Selective obedience fosters internal conflict. But full surrender brings clarity, peace, and strength.

Ask yourself honestly: Where am I still self-governed? Reflect, pray, and write down areas where Jesus needs full control. These steps help you fully surrender and deepen your commitment.

2026 isn’t about learning more—it’s about yielding more. The battlefield isn’t out there. It’s in your mind, your motives, and your mastery. This year, we’re studying The Art of War—Jesus Style. And it begins not with weapons—but with surrender. The war within starts now. And this time, we’re fighting it the right way. Recall your commander Jesus said, “I am the Way…”

Stand Firm. Submit First. Fight the Right War.”
