Put on the whole armor of God – what does it mean? For the disciple of Jesus, it means everything for the "Good" of life. The armor of God is a significant truth to understand and is to be appropriately worn to fight the battles of life well. It's a command all believers are required to wear if they are to fight the "Sea Beast" and the "Dragon" of life illustrated in the Book of Revelation (Ch. 13) skillfully and with courage.
It's the book of Ephesians that describes the six pieces of the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). To put it on means to be a "Knight in Shining Armor" that rescues a woman in distress—Lady Wisdom, of course (Proverbs 8). Being a Knight in the Lord's Army means being skillful in thought (2 Cor 2:10), using emotion competently (Titus 2:11-12), and performing in a Way that meets the demands of reality (John 14:6). Or, in other words, it means to be a warrior disciplined in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Self-controlled to be ready to fight the enemy at any given moment.
Another reason for the armor of God is a Knight (Disciple of Christ) needs it to withstand the fiery darts of adversaries to protect themselves. It's protection gear to be used to stand against accusations thrown by the opposition so as not to be offended by the enemy's words or deeds. It's a covering and safeguard to deter hostile forces from advancing from their ditches of hurt and pain. Also, the armor warns the attacker that, if they choose, the fight to come will be God-centered and fought with sound and specific skills, disciplined in the LORD.
To put on the whole armor of God is to apply it over the garments of Christ (Wonderfully Weird Commands of Christ) undividedly with other people-at-arms with their Commander, Jesus, charging the Way. The armor is meant to bring strength, stability, and encouragement so the Knights of Jesus can receive all that God has for them. Hence, the words of the Knight of Sir Apostle Paul, "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-11).
There is much to the meaning of God's armor and putting it on. However, the most significant reason is to use it to free Lady Wisdom. Free her from the chains of misery and despair of folly to bring God's purpose to reality under the Lord's Command. Overall, the primary meaning of the armor is not the analogy itself; it's about the truth and power of the spiritual protection and weapons given to fight competently, with sound character, and the ability to battle well with others to conquer the enemies of God efficiently and effectively in His Army.
With a Knight's Courage,
