Wonderfully Weird Command: Ask in Faith

If someone has faith, they have everything! The two elements of the Christian faith are belief and action. Belief plus action equals faith (Belief + Action = Faith), and this formula is what a Christian must understand to succeed in living out an excellent faith in the Lord. Our Wonderfully Weird Command: Ask in Faith is experienced in Mark 11:24, which says, "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours (ESV)." To ask in faith is to understand the equation of faith. First, let's look at "Belief."

What beliefs are formulating your life? A belief is a mental acceptance that a statement is true or something exists. Beliefs are a person's map of their reality, and beliefs guide people through their day. Beliefs are the lenses through which a person views the world, and most importantly, they are the deep well from which a person's actions flow, good or bad. There is nothing more important about a person than what they believe, hence Jesus's words, "Just believe! (Luke 8:50)." All people have thousands of beliefs, true and false, and people act on them one way or another. "One way or another" is where action comes into our equation.

Action is a process of doing something; for the Christian, it is to aim at something worth seeking, move forward with it, and hit the target it is intended to hit. In other words, it's about setting a life goal and putting action towards it until it becomes a reality both in time and Eternity. The Apostle Paul said I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14 [ESV]). The life goal for all Christ's followers is the same: to be like Jesus in their character based on how God created them to act in a way that benefits others, themselves, and all creation. To work or act otherwise is to fall short of God's glory and miss the mark (Romans 3:23).

To believe a certain way is to act in a certain way. It is belief and action that then equals a person's faith. All people have faith — right or wrong, and the Christian faith gives a method to do something established on true beliefs that produce happiness and fulfillment for the greatest number of people possible. For this reason, Jesus, the founder of the Christain faith, said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father [happiness and fulfillment] except through me (John 14:6).

Presently, what are you asking for in your prayers? Are you believing and acting towards the true Christian faith, or are you missing the equation of Jesus? If you are genuinely asking through faithful and justified beliefs in Christ, please believe in the Father's happiness and fulfillment, and receive it! If not, as Christ's Wonderfully Weird Command instructs, "Ask in Faith!"

With a believing heart and active mind,

Pastor Drake
