Most are familiar with the gospel song, "This Little Light of Mine." The theme is simple, repetitive, and quickly lends itself to learning it. Why? So all can enjoy the song with others, and what a perfect song it is to understand the following Wonderfully Weird Command of Christ: "Let Your Light Shine," shared in Matthew 5:14-16.
One of Christianity's most significant and most straightforward beliefs is knowing there is a "little light" inside each of us. A light that gives us the ability to live out our very best goodness if we so choose. Like your thumbprint, this "little light" is unique and distinctive only to "you" and is the reason why you are "Thumb-body" special. For some, it is self-expression and freedom. For others, it's a light of needing instructions and guidelines. Yet others show it through their independence and curiosity. Each person shares "light" in an extraordinary way and helps us appreciate and respect the diversity of God. It's this "light" that bonds us together in our common faith, Christianity, and projects Light in a Way only God can cast it.
What does it mean to let our light shine? It means to allow God's Goodness to dwell in you and be reflected in everything you do. It means to reflect the image of God through who you are and what you do. It means to be an example of what it truly means to be a Christ-follower in the chaotic days we live. Finally, it means to be generous in word and deed, first towards God, then others. God be the GLORY!
Generosity is the reward of applying Jesus's Wonderfully Weird Command: "Let Your Light Shine." Being generous in word and deed always gives God the GLORY. If we are generous with what He gives us, he will reward us with protection and brighten our light in all of life’s dimensions; that's a promise. However, if we fail to honor God's Way, we rob ourselves of God's LIGHT and assurance. Understand God's generous LOVE, "His LIGHT," is what He wants for you, and the darkness of stinginess is what will blow it out.
Like the song, This Little Light of Mine, Stinginess hides "generosity" under a bushel. "Hide generosity under a bushel, 'NO!', I'm going to let it shine!" Stinginess darkens the path of God and casts a shadow on Jesus's Way. Let's not be like the stingy child who refuses to share with their toys. Together, let's decide to be generous with everything we have through word and deed, so we can extinguish stinginess once and for all.
The command, Let Your Light Shine, like the song “This Little Light of Mine," is simple; it's easy to repeat, and, if learned, it will lend itself to a pleasing sound. A sound only God can light up, where everyone benefits from the illumination of your Wonderfully Weird Light that expresses God's Love for Eternity.
With generosity,
