What is the most effective way to gain power? In a word, trust! Trust is paramount to meeting the needs of reality, leading us to the Wonderfully Weird Command: “Receive God’s Power.” It’s a teaching that gives strength to live fully by God’s values through intense love, good faith, and hopeful expectations. When applied, trust will lift people out of chaos and release obsessive desires to gain orderliness from life’s sound design.
If a person wants power, they must trust in the design of God’s love. We see this design through Jesus’ words in Luke 29:49, “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high (Luke 29:49).” People who trust in God’s love are fulfilled and recognize that the Father’s Love is ultimate. They love and value God's desires and seek the best for all people. People are marked with the Father’s promise when they fully adopt His Love for life. They consider the consequences of their behaviors to add value to life as they clothe themselves with godly habits moving the good faith forward.
Trusting in God’s love is foundational and the most significant (1 Corinthians 13:13); however, if a person is to be faithful, there's more to it if they want God’s Power. To be faithful in God’s Love, as Jesus shared, you must be “clothed with power from on high.” This means to be dressed with God’s character developed through God’s Son’s teachings or the Wonderfully Weird Commands of Christ. Jesus said, If you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). There’s no way around it; to receive God’s strength and ability to thrive in life, a person must “stay in the city [God’s city]” within His walls of discipline, concentration, and patience to grow character to reap “a harvest of righteousness and peace” (Hebrews 12:11). This is where they need to “stay” until the expected hope of God arrives.
The expected hope of God is His Spirit, His Fruit that comes from living out His truth. When people trust in His love and character and “stay” with it, the promise is they will reap the hope of His strength through love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, kindness, faithfulness, and self-control that comes and grows when keeping in step with God’s values “from on high” (Gal 5:22-26). Here is where every choice we make is for the good of life, practically and spiritually, to continue to receive God’s power. This is maturity and where God’s people powerfully live in His order and design.
Right now, choose to receive God’s power by fully trusting Him. Stop putting your confidence in the wrong people and design, dispute them and choose to change your life by putting all your hope in God’s love and character to be clothed with “power from on high.” If you do, it guarantees you’ll be fulfilled with the Father’s promise of powerful success and happiness.
